Every connection stays inside the US until you land in Mexico, so there's no extra customs stop on the way. The catch is time: the median Alaska connection via Los Angeles took over 14 hours, so check the layover before you book a cheap one-stop.
Baggage by fare
No economy fare on either nonstop in our data included a checked bag. On the Delta flight sold by Aeromexico, Básica ($203 on December 5) includes a carry-on, and Clásica ($261) and Flex ($330) add flexibility but still no checked bag. On Alaska, Saver ($206 on January 2) and Main ($266) include a carry-on only, and Delta's own Main Basic ($206) and Comfort fares are the same. Checked bags came only with first-class and premium fares, so budget for the airline's bag fee if you're checking a bag.
