Best Hotels in San José del Cabo (2026): 8 Ranked

One&Only Palmilla has the highest weighted guest score in San José del Cabo, 9.6/10 across 223 reviews, which puts it #1 by our weighted score. It is also the only hotel here with a beach guests describe as swimmable, from $1,055 a night for two. In town, Viceroy Los Cabos on the hotel-zone seafront scores 9.2 across 547 reviews, from $368. For the historic centre, Casa Natalia, an adults-only boutique on Boulevard Mijares, scores a perfect 10 for service and location, from $173. On a budget, Santa Maria del Cabo priced at $91 on every date we tried.

We ranked the eight by guest score weighted for review volume (the formula is at the end of this guide), using the same rules as our best hotels in Cabo San Lucas guide, and priced every one live for the same stay, two adults for three nights, on five check-in dates from October 2026 to February 2027. Only eight hotels in San José del Cabo cleared our review floor with live rates, so this list is eight rather than ten. The ranking measures guest satisfaction and nothing else: price, location, beach access and family facilities do not move a hotel up or down, so we cover those separately in each write-up.

The two towns of Los Cabos are about 30 km apart and feel like different trips. San José del Cabo is the older, quieter one, built around a colonial plaza, a mission church and a gallery district. Cabo San Lucas, at the tip of the peninsula, has the marina, El Arco, the nightlife and the beach where most people swim.

Historic Centre: Galleries and Restaurants

Casa Natalia on Boulevard Mijares and Lumina at Cardinal on Miguel Hidalgo are a few steps from the plaza, the mission church and the gallery district, where the Thursday evening Art Walk runs through the winter season. Hotel Colli is on the same street. This is the only part of San José del Cabo where you can walk to restaurants every night. There is no beach; the seafront is about 2 km away.

Hotel Zone: Seafront Resorts

Viceroy and Hilton Vacation Club Cabo Azul sit a few hundred metres apart on Paseo Malecón, the seafront strip south of town, with Santa Maria del Cabo just inland in the Fonatur golf district. Cabo Azul guests describe a pleasant walk into downtown and restaurants across the street. The beach is long and beautiful, but guests are clear that it is not for swimming: one described waves big enough that people should not try to go in.

Costa Azul: Hillside, With a Car

MariaMar Suites is on the hillside above Costa Azul, west of the hotel zone. Guests say it is not on the beach and that it is hard to reach without a car.

Puerto Los Cabos: East of Town

JW Marriott sits at Puerto Los Cabos, the marina and golf development about 4 km east of the centre. It is a self-contained resort, and one guest noted that its beach could not be used for swimming.

Palmilla: The Start of the Corridor

One&Only Palmilla is at Km 7.5 of the Corridor on Punta Palmilla, about 6 km from the centre. Guests call its beach swimmable, which makes it the exception on this list. It is not walkable to town, and guests use taxis or Uber to eat out.

One&Only Palmilla

Rated 9.6/10 across 223 guest reviews, One&Only Palmilla is #1 by our weighted score for San José del Cabo, with perfect 10s for cleanliness, service, amenities and overall experience and 9.9 for food. It sits on Punta Palmilla at Km 7.5 of the Corridor, and it is the one hotel on this list where guests call the beach swimmable; one guest on their tenth stay singled that out. Guests also praise the pools, the large ocean-view rooms and the breakfast. From $1,055 per night for two, rising to $2,096 on our February date. Value for money is its lowest score at 8.1, and the complaints are about cost rather than quality: one guest paid $165 for a lunch of a hamburger, two tacos and two sodas, and several say they ate off property because of the prices. It is remote from town, so plan on taxis or Uber, and one guest mentioned noisy neighbours. It has a kids' club and golf. We'd book this for a milestone trip where a swimmable beach matters.

Viceroy Los Cabos

Rated 9.2/10 across 547 guest reviews, Viceroy is the most-reviewed five-star in San José del Cabo and the design-led choice on the hotel-zone seafront. Service scores 9.8, and guests single out the butler and concierge team, the zero-edge pools and, in some rooms, a plunge pool on the balcony. From $368 per night for two, rising to $677 in February. Location scores 8.3, its lowest category, and guests mention noise from flights overhead. The other recurring complaint is restaurant prices: two guests described eating in town instead, and one found the pool cocktails weak. We'd book this for the best five-star experience within reach of the old town.

Hilton Vacation Club Cabo Azul

Rated 9.2/10 across 521 guest reviews, Cabo Azul is a large vacation-club resort a few hundred metres from Viceroy on the seafront, with a perfect 10 for location and for amenities. Guests like the three-tier pool with a swim-up bar, the pool hours until 10pm, and being able to walk to restaurants across the street and into downtown. It is classified three-star, but guests describe it as a resort. It sells room-only rates, from $329 per night for two on three of our dates, but $1,574 on our mid-November date. Value for money is its lowest score at 7.8. The complaints are specific: no check-in before 3pm, room types that did not match the booking (one guest was told their kitchen was not included), a ceiling leak, food prices such as $32 for two tacos, and a vacation-club sales pitch, although one guest said it came only once. The beach is not swimmable. We'd book this for families who want space and pools near town.

Casa Natalia Boutique Hotel

Rated 9.2/10 across 338 guest reviews, Casa Natalia is the top-rated hotel in the historic centre, an adults-only boutique on Boulevard Mijares with perfect 10s for service and location and 9.5 for food. Guests praise the staff and the pool. From $173 per night for two. The rooms are the weak point, at 8.5 for both cleanliness and room quality, and guests describe basic furnishings and rough towels. Several guests in rooms at the back, above the road, say traffic noise kept them up; ask for a quieter room when you book. There are stairs and no elevator, and breakfast is not included in every rate. We'd book this for couples who want the old town on their doorstep.

JW Marriott Los Cabos

Rated 9.0/10 across 238 guest reviews, JW Marriott is the lowest-priced five-star here, from $290 per night for two, at Puerto Los Cabos east of town. It has a kids' club, several pools including a long pool for laps, and 9.5 for cleanliness, service and location. Prices were $290 to $536 on three dates and $1,550 on our mid-November date. Value for money is its lowest score at 7.5, and the complaints are about upkeep and service: guests mention cold staff at the front desk, damaged pool tiles, trees blocking paid ocean views, and overdue maintenance. One guest noted the beach could not be used for swimming. We'd book this for families who want a big-brand resort with a kids' club at the lowest five-star price.

Lumina at Cardinal

Rated 8.9/10 across 314 guest reviews, Lumina is an apartment building on Miguel Hidalgo in the historic centre, with a rooftop pool and 9.4 for location and service. It sells room-only rates from $170 per night for two. Cleanliness is its weakest score at 7.9, and the complaints are consistent: old or stained towels, bedding that did not look clean, power outages and spotty WiFi. We'd book this for a longer stay in the old town where a kitchen matters more than polish.

Santa Maria del Cabo

Rated 8.3/10 across 373 guest reviews, Santa Maria del Cabo is the cheapest hotel on this list at $91 per night for two on every date we priced, in the Fonatur golf district near supermarkets and a bus stop. Value scores 9.5 and service 9.0, and guests like the pool and the spacious units. Room quality is its weakest score at 7.4, with food at 7.5: guests describe dated bathrooms and hard beds, kitchenettes without cutlery, a repetitive breakfast, and one reported cockroaches. We'd book this for the tightest budget in San José del Cabo.

MariaMar Suites

Rated 8.3/10 across 523 guest reviews, MariaMar is a breakfast-included suite hotel on the Costa Azul hillside, from $128 to $132 per night for two. Guests like the staff. Location scores 8.0 and food 7.5: it is not on the beach, guests say it is hard to reach without a car, there is no elevator, and guests in mid-2026 reported daytime renovation noise. We'd book this only with a rental car.

Hotel Colli

Hotel Colli is a small hotel on Miguel Hidalgo in the historic centre, rated 8.8/10 across 578 guest reviews, with 9.3 for location and 9.2 for service. Guests praise the staff, the central location and comfortable beds, though some found them hard, and mention noise from the stairs and courtyard in some rooms and limited parking. On our weighted score it would place seventh, between Lumina and Santa Maria del Cabo. It is not in our ranking because it returned no live rates through our reservation system on any of our five dates, so we cannot show you a verified price or book it for you.

San José del Cabo also has several resorts sold mainly as all-inclusive packages, including Royal Solaris Los Cabos (8.6/10 across 1,125 reviews), Grand Decameron Los Cabos (8.6 across 491) and the adults-only Secrets Puerto Los Cabos (8.9 across 365). They are not ranked here, because an all-inclusive rate and a room rate are not comparable prices. • Do not plan on swimming in the sea in town: Guests at the hotel-zone and Puerto Los Cabos resorts say the beach is not for swimming. One&Only Palmilla is the exception on this list.
• The airport is close: San José del Cabo is about 10 km from Los Cabos International Airport in a straight line, which makes it the easier base for a short trip or an early flight. • Old-town hotels are about the town, not the property: Casa Natalia, Lumina and Hotel Colli have small pools and no beach. What you get is the plaza, the galleries and dinner on foot.
• Expect stairs: Guests at Casa Natalia and MariaMar mention stairs and no elevator. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, ask for a ground-floor room.
• Resort restaurants are expensive: Guests at Palmilla, Viceroy and Cabo Azul all describe high food prices and eating in town instead. Downtown restaurants are a short taxi ride from the hotel zone.
• Check-in and room type: At Cabo Azul, guests report no early check-in and room types that did not match their booking. Confirm what your rate includes, especially a kitchen, before you arrive.

The eight hotels priced between $91 and $2,096 per night for two adults on a three-night stay, across five check-in dates from mid-October 2026 to mid-February 2027. All figures are the cheapest room-only or breakfast rate on offer, before the local taxes and fees the booking site adds at checkout.

Under $250 a night

Santa Maria del Cabo at $91, MariaMar Suites at $128 to $132, Lumina at Cardinal at $170 to $246, and Casa Natalia from $173. Santa Maria del Cabo and MariaMar held nearly flat prices across our dates.

JW Marriott from $290, Hilton Vacation Club Cabo Azul from $329 and Viceroy from $368 to $677. This is where the five-star resorts start.

Over $1,000 a night

One&Only Palmilla alone, at $1,055 to $2,096.

When to book

Unlike in Cabo San Lucas, there was no single cheapest date here. What stood out was mid-November: on that date, JW Marriott priced at $1,550 and Cabo Azul at $1,574, three to five times their other dates, while the budget hotels barely moved. • Decide between the old town and the seafront: The historic centre gives you restaurants and galleries on foot; the hotel zone gives you resort pools and a beach you walk rather than swim.
• Choose Palmilla if swimming matters: One&Only Palmilla is the only hotel here with a beach guests describe as swimmable. Otherwise, Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas is the calm option.
• Ask for a quiet room downtown: Guests at Casa Natalia and Hotel Colli describe road, stair and courtyard noise in some rooms.
• Price more than one date: JW Marriott and Cabo Azul cost three to five times as much on our mid-November date.

Most lists of the best hotels in San José del Cabo mix the old town, the hotel zone and resorts 20 km away on the Corridor, and never tell you which beach you can swim at. This one uses verified guest reviews and live prices, and sticks to San José del Cabo itself.

We started from the 386 properties our reservation system lists within 14 km of the centre of San José del Cabo, and kept those within 7.5 km of the centre: the historic centre, the hotel zone, Costa Azul, Puerto Los Cabos and Palmilla. That excludes the resorts farther out along the Corridor, and we also removed properties near the airport, which are a different kind of stay. We kept hotels and resorts with a guest score of at least 8.0 and at least 300 verified reviews, lowering that to 200 for five-star properties, exactly as in our Cabo San Lucas guides. We then removed resorts sold mainly as all-inclusive packages and any hotel that returned live room-only or breakfast rates on fewer than four of our five dates.

That left eight. Three well-reviewed hotels returned no live rates at all and so could not be ranked: Marisol Hotel Boutique (9.1/10 across 518 reviews), Hotel Colli (8.8 across 578) and Suites Las Palmas (8.3 across 330). Several highly rated hotels fell below the review floor, including Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (9.2 across 125), Tropicana Los Cabos (9.4 across 120), Flamboyan Hotel & Residences (9.4 across 140) and La Marina Inn (9.2 across 127). They may well be excellent; we rank only on a large enough sample of stays.

How the ranking is calculated

The order is set by a formula, with no editorial adjustments. It uses two inputs only, guest score and review count. It does not include price, location, beach access, family suitability, amenities or star category; those shape what we say about each hotel, not where it ranks. Each hotel gets a weighted score:

Weighted score = (reviews × guest score + 300 × 8.8) ÷ (reviews + 300)

Every hotel starts as if it already had 300 reviews at a baseline score of 8.8, and its real reviews pull it away from that baseline. A hotel with a small number of reviews is pulled toward the baseline, because a small sample reaches a high number more easily. This is the same formula and baseline as our Cabo San Lucas hotels and all-inclusive resorts guides.

Pricing was checked across five check-in dates in September 2026 and reflects two adults for three nights, before the local taxes and fees added at checkout.
