Direct Flights from Edmonton to Cabo San Lucas vs Connecting
From November to April, direct flights from Edmonton to Cabo San Lucas were the cheapest way to fly in our data, so there's no reason to connect in winter. A connection only makes sense from May to August, when neither nonstop ran: United via Denver from $346 in May, and WestJet via Vancouver from $514 in July and August.
| Option | Typical departure (Edmonton) | Flying time | Lowest fare seen |
|---|---|---|---|
| WestJet nonstop, October to April | 6:15 or 8:15 a.m.; some 1:05 p.m. | About 4.5 to 5 hours | $272 |
| Porter nonstop, November 16 to April | 12:30 or 1:30 p.m. | About 5 hours | $281 |
| WestJet via Calgary | 7:45 a.m. | About 7 to 8 hours | $332 |

| United via Denver | 6:00 a.m. | About 7 hours | $346 |
| WestJet via Vancouver (summer) | 6:50 a.m. | About 7.5 hours | $514 |
Schedules as listed in Nuitée's fare data for the dates we searched; departure times are Edmonton local time. We don't list arrival times because some Cabo arrival times in the data were an hour off on winter dates, so confirm them when you book.
Two things to watch on connections. Many cheap connecting itineraries in the data were long: the median WestJet connection via Calgary took over 18 hours. And a US connection (Denver) means clearing US customs and security on the way, while one through Calgary or Vancouver stays in Canada until you land in Mexico.
Baggage by fare
The two nonstop airlines bundle bags differently. Porter's Basic fare ($281) includes a carry-on but no checked bag; Standard was $346 and Flexible, with a checked bag, $420. WestJet's Ultrabasic ($272) includes neither a carry-on nor a checked bag; Econo ($445) adds a carry-on and Econoflex ($526) a checked bag. If you're travelling with a carry-on, Porter's Basic fare already covers it.
