Direct Flights from Vancouver to Cabo San Lucas vs Connecting
Direct flights from Vancouver to Cabo San Lucas were usually the cheapest sensible way to fly in our data, not just the fastest. From October to April the nonstop was within $40 of the cheapest connection under 9 hours in every month, so a connection mostly pays off in summer: WestJet's single nonstop started at $476 in June, when United via San Francisco ran from $329.
| Option | Typical departure (Vancouver) | Flying time | Lowest fare seen |
|---|---|---|---|
| WestJet nonstop, October to April | 7:00 or 7:30 a.m.; some 10:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. | About 4.5 hours | $299 |
| WestJet nonstop, May to August | 8:40 a.m. | About 4.5 hours | $476 |

| American via Dallas | 7:00 a.m. | About 8 to 9 hours | $381 |
Schedules as listed in Nuitée's fare data for the dates we searched; departure times are Vancouver local time. We don't list arrival times because some Cabo arrival times in the data were an hour off on winter dates, so confirm them when you book.
Two things to watch on connections. Most cheap connecting itineraries in the data were long: every fare under $299 took 15 hours or more, and the median connection via Calgary took over 16 hours. And a US connection (Seattle, San Francisco, Dallas) means clearing US customs and security on the way, while one through Calgary stays in Canada until you land in Mexico.
Baggage by fare
Both nonstop airlines sell a no-bags fare at the bottom. On WestJet, Ultrabasic ($299 on April 13) includes neither a carry-on nor a checked bag; Econo ($366) adds a carry-on and Econoflex ($446) adds one checked bag. On Air Canada, Basic ($331 on April 3) includes no bags, Standard ($406) adds a carry-on and Flex ($486) a checked bag. For a beach week with one checked bag, compare the checked-bag fare against the cheapest fare plus the bag fee before you book.
