Todos Santos in October (2027): Weather, Crowds, Surf & Things to Do

⭐ Best October window: October 18–31. Storm risk has fallen noticeably, the heat has eased, more of the town has reopened, and the water is still warm. The last days of the month also lead straight into the fall festival season and Day of the Dead on November 1–2.

Todos Santos in October is the town between seasons. The first half of the month still feels like summer, hot and humid with a lingering storm risk, while the second half settles into warm, drier days and cooler nights. Businesses that closed for the September break reopen through the month, and by late October the town is noticeably livelier.

The payoff is the water and the value. The Pacific is still around 27°C, and room rates in our sample were some of the lowest of the year. We'd lean toward late October for travellers who want warm-water beach days, a quiet town, and low prices before the winter season. We'd only book early October if you can cancel or change dates, since storm risk hasn't fully passed.

Most people don't realize October is the best-value month for warm water in Todos Santos. By the time the winter crowds and whales arrive in December, the Pacific has cooled to around 23°C; in October you get water almost as warm as September's, with a fraction of the storm risk.

Temperature and Humidity

October highs average about 31°C (88°F), but the month runs from summer to autumn: early October is still hot and sticky, while late October is noticeably more comfortable. Nights drop to around 20°C (68°F), three degrees cooler than September, which makes a real difference to sleep. The biggest difference from September is humidity, which falls steadily as the summer weather pattern breaks down.

Rain Pattern

Rain drops sharply to about 15 mm over roughly two days, a quarter of September's total. Most of it falls early in the month, often linked to late-season tropical systems. Sunshine climbs back to around eight hours a day.

Sea and Outdoor Conditions

The Pacific averages about 27°C (81°F) in October, ranging from roughly 25°C to 30°C (77–84°F), still one of the warmest months of the year. Summer south swells fade through the month, and the northwest swells that power the winter surf season at Cerritos, which runs roughly November to March according to the Cerritos surf statistics, start to show toward the end of the month. The town beaches keep their strong shore break year-round.

October vs September and November

October is quiet shoulder season. The town fills back up gradually as businesses reopen and the first winter residents return.

• October 1–17: still summer. Some businesses are still on their summer break, and storm risk lingers. Very quiet, very cheap, and best for flexible travellers.
• Early-to-mid October: the Fiestas Patronales. Todos Santos' patron-saint festival, in honor of the Virgen del Pilar, whose feast day is October 12, brings dances, concerts, food, and sports to town; in 2025 it ran October 7–12, according to the Go La Paz events listing. Check the 2027 program.
• October 18–31: the town wakes up. More restaurants and galleries reopen, the weather settles, and early winter residents start to arrive. This is the sweet spot of the month.
• End of October: festival season begins. In 2026, the fall calendar opened with an international documentary film festival on October 29–31 at the Teatro Márquez de León, followed by the Day of the Dead festival on November 1–2. Check 2027 dates closer to the time.

When we sampled room-only rates in September 2026, most properties had not yet released October 2027 rates, so we checked October 2026 dates instead. Boutique hotels in and around town came in around $130–280 per night in early and mid-October, rising to about $200–285 by late October, and luxury resorts ranged from roughly $390 to $1,760. A hostel was also available from about $60. Far more properties, 14 to 18, returned rates for those nearer dates, consistent with the town reopening through the month. October is when Todos Santos' two cool-season draws, wildlife and culture, start to come back.

Sea Turtle Nesting Begins

Three species of sea turtle nest on the beaches around Todos Santos: the olive ridley, the critically endangered leatherback, and occasionally the black sea turtle. According to the local conservation group Tortugueros Las Playitas, leatherbacks nest here from October through April, and volunteers relocate nests to a protected hatchery from October. Hatchling releases follow later, roughly from December to April, so October is the start of the season rather than the time to see baby turtles. We'd only plan around turtles in October if you're interested in the conservation work itself; ask locally about volunteering.

Festival Season Starts

Late October opens the town's busiest cultural stretch of the year. In 2026, it began with a documentary film festival on October 29–31, with the Day of the Dead festival in the main plaza on November 1–2 and the long-running Todos Santos Film Festival later in November. If your trip runs into the first days of November, Day of the Dead is worth planning around.

Whale Sharks and Sea Lions Near La Paz

October's downsides are concentrated in its first half.

Storm Risk

The eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30, and Climates to Travel puts October inside the August-to-October higher-risk window for Baja, while noting that hurricanes have never occurred in November. In practice, risk falls through October. We think the tradeoff is simple: if you book early October, keep everything refundable and watch the National Hurricane Center's outlook; if you can choose, go in the second half of the month.

Businesses Still Reopening

Some restaurants, galleries, and shops that closed for September reopen during October rather than on the 1st. If a particular place matters to your trip, confirm its reopening date before you go.

Beach Safety

Warm water tempts people in, but the beaches by town, Punta Lobos, La Cachora, and La Pastora, keep their strong shore break and currents all year. Swim at Playa Los Cerritos on calm days, and stay out of the water when a storm is sending swell to the coast.

What we'd prioritise in October

Make the most of the last warm water of the year. We'd book this for a calm morning: a Cabo snorkel cruise, or a sea lion snorkel at Espíritu Santo now that the colony is back. Spend other mornings at Cerritos, swimming or taking a surf lesson in warm water.

In late October, the town is worth exploring again as galleries and restaurants reopen, and the cooler evenings make the Punta Lobos walk and sunset at La Pastora a pleasure. • Confirm reopening dates. Some restaurants and galleries don't reopen until partway through the month.
• Swim at Cerritos, not by town. Warm water doesn't change the dangerous shore break on the town beaches.
• Plan a La Paz day. The Espíritu Santo sea lions are back, and whale shark season starts late in the month.
• Stay for Day of the Dead. If your dates run into November 1–2, the festival in the plaza is a highlight of the year.
• Rent a car. Cerritos, Migriño, La Paz, and every Cabo tour departure need wheels.
• Book hotels while rates are low. October has some of the lowest boutique rates of the year.
