Todos Santos in April (2027): Weather, Crowds, Surf & Things to Do

Todos Santos in April is the town at its most relaxed. The winter high season winds down, the Easter holidays end in the first days of the month, and what's left is some of the most reliable weather of the year: long, sunny days, no rain in an average April, and nights that are cool enough for sleeping but no longer cold. It is an easy month to find a table, a quiet beach walk, or a gallery to yourself.

What April gives up is the wildlife and the winter surf. Whale season is ending, so the humpbacks that define January to March are mostly gone by mid-month, and the winter swell at Cerritos has faded. The Pacific is also still cool, only a fraction warmer than March. We'd lean toward April for couples, artists and writers, and anyone who wants Todos Santos quiet and sunny rather than busy and wild. We'd only steer you elsewhere if whales are the reason for the trip; in that case, go in February or early March.

Most people don't realize that April's biggest advantage is not price but space. In our rate sample, boutique rooms cost about the same in April as in March, but with the holiday crowds gone, you get the same hotels, restaurants, and beaches with a fraction of the people.

Temperature and Humidity

April highs average about 26°C (79°F), with lows around 13°C (56°F), a degree warmer at night than March. Days are warm but not hot, and the dry air keeps afternoons comfortable. The biggest difference from winter is the evenings: a light layer is still useful by the water, but the heavy jacket of January can stay at home.

Rain Pattern

April is effectively rain-free, averaging 0 mm and no rainy days, with about eight and a half hours of sunshine a day. It's one of the most dependable months of the year for outdoor plans. The only weather quirk is the occasional morning marine layer along the coast, which usually clears by late morning.

Sea and Outdoor Conditions

The Pacific is still cool in April, averaging about 19°C (66°F) and ranging from roughly 18°C to 21°C (64–69°F), barely up from March's yearly low. The winter northwest swell that powers Cerritos from November to March has eased, so waves are generally smaller and friendlier, and the south swells that favor the Cabo side, such as Costa Azul, begin to show from spring. The town beaches still have strong shore break on bigger days. What typically happens is that a northwest breeze builds after midday, so mornings remain the best time for surfing and beach walks.

April vs March and May

April is really two months in one: a busy first few days and a quiet remainder.

• April 1–4: the tail of Pascua week. Easter was on March 28 in 2027, and Mexican schools stay on break until classes resume on April 5, according to the 2027 SEP calendar. Beaches, Cerritos, and campsites along the coast stay busy with domestic visitors through the weekend.
• April 5–18: the sweet spot. School holidays are over, spring break is done, and the town settles into its quietest rhythm in months. Weather is at its most reliable. Our take: this is the window to aim for.
• April 19–30: the start of the off-season feel. More winter residents have left, a few businesses shorten their hours, and the town becomes very peaceful. We'd book this if you want Todos Santos almost to yourself.

When we sampled room-only rates in September for April 2027, boutique hotels in and around town came in around $195–310 per night across all three sets of dates, the same range as March. Luxury resorts ran roughly $560 to $1,370, with one resort near $2,950 during Pascua week. Only 10 to 11 of the roughly 95 properties listed by our booking partner returned rates, and some of that gap is properties that had not yet released April rates rather than sell-outs. With far fewer visitors competing for those rooms after April 4, most guests find April the easiest month of the season to book. April closes the whale season. Visit Los Cabos gives the season as December through April, with the January-to-March peak behind you by now. In practice, the first week or so of April can still bring humpback sightings, especially on Cabo boat tours that cover a lot of water, while shore sightings from Todos Santos become occasional and then rare as the month goes on.

In our view, a whale cruise is worth booking in April only if you're in the area during the first days of the month and missed the peak. We'd skip it after mid-April and put the morning toward the desert or the coast instead. If whales are the priority, February and early March are the months to plan around.

What Replaces the Whales

April's reward is the desert and the coast in perfect weather. The dry, sunny days are ideal for hiking the coastal trail from Punta Lobos, exploring the Sierra de la Laguna foothills before summer heat, and riding the Migriño ATV trails on Highway 19. April's downsides are modest: the water is still cool, most beaches are still unswimmable, and the winter surf season is over. None of them should put you off, but they shape what a beach day looks like.

Where You Can and Can't Swim

• Punta Lobos, La Cachora, La Pastora, and the long beaches near town: strong shore break and currents on most days. Beautiful for walking and sunsets; not for swimming. Drownings do happen on this coast, so take the warnings seriously.
• Playa Los Cerritos (about 15 minutes south): the most forgiving beach in the area, with a sandy bottom and a sheltered point. With winter swell easing, April is often a gentler month there, and the best bet for a swim.
• Playa Las Palmas (San Pedrito): a palm-backed cove that can be calm enough to wade on small days; check conditions first.

Surfing in April

The main winter surf season at Cerritos runs roughly November to March, when northwest swells arrive consistently (see the Cerritos surf statistics for month-by-month swell data). By April the waves are usually smaller, which is good news for first-timers and less exciting for experienced surfers. At the same time, south swells start to reach the Cabo side, which is why our Cabo surf lessons guide recommends Costa Azul from spring through fall. We'd give Cerritos the edge for a gentle first lesson from Todos Santos, and Costa Azul the edge if you're staying near San José del Cabo. A 3/2 wetsuit is still the norm at around 19°C.

Where to Find Calm Water

For calm, clear water, head to the Sea of Cortez: Cabo's snorkel bays, or Playa Balandra near La Paz, about an hour north, which is much quieter after Easter. The eastern Pacific hurricane season runs May 15 to November 30, so April carries no hurricane risk.

What we'd prioritise in April

April is a land month. We'd book this first: the Migriño ATV ride, which is the closest of the big Cabo-area tours to Todos Santos and sits in perfect April weather, then continue south for the zipline canyon on another day if you want more adrenaline. In town, April is the easiest month to enjoy the galleries, the mission church, the historic Teatro Márquez de León, and the famous Hotel California at your own pace.

We like the coast at the end of the day in April: a walk from Punta Lobos, sunset at La Pastora, and dinner in town without a reservation scramble. Beginners who want to try surfing will find Cerritos gentler than in winter. • Horseback riding on the beach: small local outfits run rides along the sand and through the desert. April's quiet beaches and warm evenings make a sunset ride especially good.
• Punta Lobos fishing pangas: the local fleet launches and lands its boats through the surf just south of town; watching them come in with the catch is a real slice of local life.
• El Pescadero farms and farm-to-table dining: the farming community between Todos Santos and Cerritos supplies many local restaurants, and April is an easy month to get a table.
• Sierra de la Laguna foothills: trails, ranchos, and cooler air in the mountains east of town. April is one of the last comfortable months to hike before summer heat; go with a local guide.
• La Paz and Espíritu Santo: La Paz is about an hour north, and the islands are far quieter after Easter; see our La Paz in April guide.

• Aim for April 5 or later. Mexican school holidays run until April 3, 2027, and the beaches and campsites stay busy through that weekend.
• Don't build the trip around whales. Sightings are possible early in April but thin out fast; if whales matter, book a Cabo cruise for the first days of the month or plan for February instead.
• Plan land days. April's dry, sunny weather is ideal for the Migriño ATV trails, the zipline canyon, coastal hikes, and the Sierra de la Laguna foothills before summer heat.
• Bring a wetsuit for the water. The Pacific is still around 19°C; a 3/2 wetsuit makes surfing comfortable, and lesson schools can arrange one with notice.
• Rent a car. Migriño, Cerritos, Punta Lobos, La Paz, and every Cabo tour departure need wheels, and most tour pickups cover Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo hotels rather than Todos Santos.
• Check late-April opening hours. As winter residents leave, a few restaurants and galleries shorten their hours; confirm before making a special trip.
• Treat the beaches with respect. Most beaches near town are unswimmable; swim only at Cerritos on calm days, and never alone.
• Pack sun protection. With no rain and more than eight hours of sun a day, April sun is strong even when the breeze feels cool.
