Todos Santos in March is the end of the winter high season, and in many ways its best-weather month. March is the driest and sunniest month of the year, with about eight and a half hours of sun a day, warm afternoons, and the cool, clear nights of winter. Whales are still here in good numbers for one more month, winter swell keeps Cerritos surfable, and the galleries, cafés, and restaurants are in full swing.

Two things change the picture. The Pacific reaches its coldest point of the year, and the second half of the month fills up with US spring breakers and, from March 21, Mexican families on their Semana Santa and school holidays. We'd lean toward the first twelve days of March for couples, wildlife lovers, and anyone who wants the town at its most relaxed. We'd only book Easter week if you want the festive atmosphere, or if school calendars leave you no choice; in that case, reserve everything early.

Most people don't realize that Easter week crowds in Todos Santos are mainly domestic and beach-focused. Mexican families head for the beaches and campsites along the coast, so the beaches and roads get busier than the galleries. What typically happens is that the historic center stays pleasant in the mornings even during Semana Santa, while beach parking and Cerritos fill up by late morning.

Temperature and Humidity

March daytime highs average about 25–26°C (77–78°F), a fraction warmer than February, and the air stays dry. Nights are still cool at around 12°C (54°F), so the jacket stays in the suitcase for evenings on the coast. The biggest difference between March and the summer months is that the whole day is usable: hiking at midday, walking the town, and lingering at a beach are all comfortable, where summer afternoons are hot and humid.

Rain Pattern

March is the driest month of the year, with around 5 mm of rain on average and, in most years, no rainy days at all. It is also the sunniest, averaging about eight and a half hours of sunshine a day. The only real weather variable is the morning marine layer that sometimes sits over the coast before burning off by late morning.

Sea and Outdoor Conditions

March is the coldest month of the year for the Pacific here, with sea temperatures averaging about 19°C (66°F) and ranging from roughly 17°C to 21°C (63–69°F). The winter northwest swell is winding down but still delivers surf at Cerritos and San Pedrito, and the shore break at the town beaches is as powerful as ever. Mornings are calmest; the northwest breeze builds after midday, so plan surf and whale-spotting early.

March vs February and April

March splits into a calm first half and a busy second half. Three sets of dates matter more than anything else.

• March 1–12: the calm window. Winter residents are still in town, but there are no holidays and whale season is still at its peak. This is the best stretch of the month for a relaxed trip.
• March 13–15: Benito Juárez long weekend. Mexico's Benito Juárez Day holiday falls on Monday, March 15, 2027, creating a long weekend for domestic travellers, and US spring break is under way through much of March. Expect busier beaches and restaurants.
• March 21–31: Semana Santa and school holidays. Semana Santa 2027 runs March 21–28, with Holy Thursday and Good Friday on March 25–26 and Easter Sunday on March 28, and Mexican schools break from March 22 until classes resume on April 5. This is the busiest week of spring on the Pacific coast.

Prices behave differently from what you might expect. When we sampled room-only rates in September for March 2027, the boutique hotels in and around town came in at around $195–310 per night for early March, mid-March, and even Semana Santa, broadly flat and a little below February. The top end is where Easter shows up: most luxury resorts stayed between roughly $700 and $1,370, but one jumped to nearly $3,000 a night for Semana Santa dates. Only 13 to 15 of the roughly 95 properties listed by our booking partner returned rates, and some of that gap is properties that had not yet released March rates rather than sell-outs. Our take: if you're coming for Easter week, book both your room and any tours well ahead, and plan beach days for early morning before parking fills. March is the last month of peak whale season in southern Baja. Visit Los Cabos gives the season as December through April with January to March as the peak, so early and mid-March still deliver strong sightings, while late March starts the slide into April's thinner numbers. From Todos Santos, the bluff at Punta Lobos and the beach at La Pastora remain the best places to scan for spouts and breaches on clear mornings, though sightings from land are never guaranteed.

In our view, March is the month to book your Cabo whale cruise early in the trip rather than leaving it to the end: every week that passes brings the season closer to its close. Gray whales are also on the move in March, heading north again from Baja's Pacific lagoons, so you may see them passing offshore.

March's downsides are the coldest water of the year and, late in the month, the busiest beaches of spring. Both are easy to plan around.

Where You Can and Can't Swim

• Punta Lobos, La Cachora, La Pastora, and the long beaches near town: heavy shore break, steep drop-offs, and strong currents. Beautiful for walking, whale-spotting, and sunsets; not for swimming. Drownings do happen on this coast, and Easter week, when beaches are busiest, is when the warnings matter most.
• Playa Los Cerritos (about 15 minutes south): the most forgiving beach in the area and the standard beginner surf beach. Expect it to be crowded over Semana Santa; arrive early.
• Playa Las Palmas (San Pedrito): a palm-backed cove that can be calm enough to wade on small days, but exposed to swell; check conditions first.

Surfing in March

March is the last month of the main winter surf season at Cerritos, roughly November to March, when northwest swells arrive consistently (see the Cerritos surf statistics for month-by-month swell data). With the water at its coldest, around 19°C, a full 3/2 wetsuit is the norm. We'd give Cerritos the edge for beginners: the lessons above include boards and gear, and while their transport is set up for Cabo San Lucas and Tourist Corridor hotels, from Todos Santos you're a short drive from the beach. Where to Find Calm Water

For calm, clear water, head to the Sea of Cortez: Cabo's snorkel bays, or Playa Balandra near La Paz, about an hour north, though Balandra is also very popular during Easter week. None of this is storm-related; the eastern Pacific hurricane season runs May 15 to November 30, so March carries no hurricane risk.

What we'd prioritise in March

Book the whale cruise first and do it early in your trip; this is the last month of peak season. We'd book this for a clear morning in the first half of your stay, then drive back north via the Migriño ATV trails or the zipline canyon. On other mornings, take coffee and binoculars to Punta Lobos and watch from shore.

March's dry, sunny weather is ideal for exploring on foot, so give the galleries, the mission church, the historic Teatro Márquez de León, and the famous Hotel California an unhurried morning. We like the Punta Lobos coastal walk at sunset in March, when the light is clear and the air is warm. These experiences don't have dedicated guides on this site yet, but they suit a March stay especially well:

• Holy Week in town: Semana Santa brings special services at the Misión de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, often with processions, and a festive, family atmosphere in the plaza. It's a genuine local tradition rather than a tourist event, so watch respectfully.
• Punta Lobos fishing pangas: the local fleet launches and lands its boats through the surf just south of town, and the bluff above is one of the best whale lookouts on the coast while the season lasts.
• Horseback riding on the beach: small local outfits run rides along the sand and through the desert; March's dry, sunny afternoons are ideal.
• Sierra de la Laguna foothills: the mountains east of town hold trails, ranchos, and cooler air. March's dry weather is ideal for hiking before the spring heat; go with a local guide, as trails are rugged and poorly marked.

• Book the whale cruise for early in your trip. March is the final peak month, and sightings thin as April approaches, so don't leave it to your last day.
• Reserve everything early for Semana Santa. March 21–28, 2027 and the school holidays that follow are the busiest stretch of spring; rooms, tours, and popular restaurants all fill.
• Arrive at the beach early over Easter week. Parking at Cerritos and the popular beaches fills by late morning when Mexican families head to the coast.
• Pack for the coldest water of the year. At around 19°C, surfing needs a full 3/2 wetsuit; lesson schools can arrange one with notice.
• Rent a car. Cerritos, Punta Lobos, La Paz, and every Cabo tour departure need wheels, and most Cabo tour pickups cover Cabo San Lucas and Tourist Corridor hotels rather than Todos Santos.
• Bring sun protection. March is the sunniest month of the year; the cool breeze hides how strong the sun is.
• Treat the beaches with respect. Most beaches near town are unswimmable; swim only at Cerritos on calm days, and never alone.
• Carry pesos. Smaller shops, taco stands, and beach parking often take cash only, and ATMs can run low over holiday weekends.
