So who is October for? We'd lean toward October for anglers chasing peak marlin and the tournament atmosphere, and for value travellers who want warm water with easing weather. We'd book late October for the best mix of settled conditions and warm sea. We'd only steer you to another month if you need guaranteed dry weather, in which case November onward is safer, or if whales are the goal, which means winter. Most people don't realize how quickly October improves; the difference between the first and last weeks of the month can be the difference between storm-watching and shirtsleeve evenings.

• Bisbee's Black & Blue Marlin Tournament (late October): the headline event, one of the largest big-money marlin tournaments anywhere, drawing top teams to Cabo San Lucas. Even if you're not competing, the marina is buzzing, the weigh-ins are a spectacle, and hotels fill faster, so book ahead if your dates overlap.
• Bisbee's Los Cabos Offshore (mid-to-late October): the "Little Bisbee's" precedes the main event, adding to a tournament-heavy back half of the month.
• Peak marlin season generally: beyond the tournaments, October is one of the best months of the year to fish for striped and blue marlin, dorado, and tuna out of Cabo or La Paz.
