Todos Santos in June is the clearest demonstration of why people call this the cool side of Baja. While La Paz swelters around 35°C (95°F) and Cabo San Lucas heads into its hot, humid summer, Todos Santos averages about 27°C (81°F) with no rain and plenty of sun. The Pacific breeze keeps afternoons comfortable and evenings pleasant, and the town is at its quietest.

What June lacks is a headline event on the Pacific side. There are no whales, the winter surf is long gone, and the ocean is still cool, around 21°C, and too rough for swimming at most beaches. We'd lean toward June for travellers who want a peaceful, mild base for exploring southern Baja in early summer, with day trips to the warm Sea of Cortez for snorkeling. We'd only steer you elsewhere if you want a lively town or warm water on your doorstep; for those, look at winter or base yourself on the Cortez side.

Most people don't realize that June is still, strictly speaking, dry season in Todos Santos. The summer rains don't usually start until July, so June delivers the heat-free sunshine of spring with the quiet of low season.

Temperature and Humidity

June highs average about 27°C (81°F), only a degree above May, but nights warm up noticeably to around 17°C (62°F). The cool Pacific current that keeps the coast mild through spring is still doing its work in June; by July and August it weakens, and Todos Santos heats up like the rest of the peninsula. The biggest difference between June and the months that follow is comfort: June afternoons are warm, while August afternoons are genuinely hot and humid.

Rain Pattern

June averages 0 mm of rain and no rainy days, with about eight and a half hours of sunshine a day. The rainy, sultry part of summer on this coast runs from roughly July to October, so June is the last fully dry month before it.

Sea and Outdoor Conditions

The Pacific averages about 21°C (70°F) in June, ranging from roughly 19°C to 23°C (66–73°F). It is warmer than spring but still cool for long swims, and the town beaches keep their strong shore break. Summer swells arrive from the south and southwest; Cerritos works best on a west-southwest swell according to Surf-Forecast, so it can pick up surf on the right days, but Costa Azul on the Cabo side is the more consistent summer spot. Mornings bring the calmest conditions before the afternoon sea breeze.

Hurricane Season in June

The eastern Pacific hurricane season officially runs from May 15 to November 30, and Climates to Travel notes that hurricanes are rare in June, with the higher-probability period from August to October. In our view, June's storm risk is a reason to keep bookings flexible and check forecasts, not a reason to skip the month.

June vs May and July

June is low season. There are no major holidays drawing crowds, and the town has a relaxed, local feel.

• June 1–20: the quiet core. Few visitors, easy restaurant tables, and empty beaches. This is the best stretch of the month.
• June 20 (Sunday): Father's Day. Celebrated on the same day in Mexico and the US in 2027; expect family lunches and busier restaurants.
• June 21–30: summer creeping in. Nights get warmer and stickier, and the first US summer-holiday visitors start arriving in the region, more noticeably in Cabo than in Todos Santos.

When we sampled room-only rates in September for June 2027, boutique hotels in and around town came in around $225–340 per night across early, mid, and late June, broadly flat. Luxury resorts ran roughly $465 to $1,165, about the same as May and well below winter. Only 9 to 10 of the roughly 95 properties listed by our booking partner returned rates, fewer than in spring; some properties may simply not have released June rates, while others may be closed or on reduced operation in low season, so confirm directly if you have your heart set on one. A few restaurants and galleries keep shorter low-season hours in June, but most of the town is open; the larger seasonal closures tend to come later in summer. June's seasonal draw is the contrast between Baja's two coasts. Todos Santos sits on the cool, breezy Pacific; an hour away, the Sea of Cortez is warm and calm. Using both is what makes a June trip work.

What typically happens is that visitors who base themselves in Todos Santos in June sleep and explore comfortably on the Pacific side, then cross to the Sea of Cortez for warm-water days. We'd give the edge to a Cabo snorkel cruise for convenience, or to Playa Balandra near La Paz for calm, shallow turquoise water. June is also one of the best months to see mobula rays gathering off La Paz. Note that the Los Islotes sea lion colony closes around June 1 for pupping season, so that trip is off the table until autumn.

June's downsides are the familiar Pacific ones, plus the start of storm season. None is a deal-breaker, but they shape the trip.

Where You Can and Can't Swim

• Punta Lobos, La Cachora, La Pastora, and the long beaches near town: strong shore break and currents; beautiful for walking and sunsets, not for swimming. Drownings do happen on this coast, so take the warnings seriously.
• Playa Los Cerritos (about 15 minutes south): the most forgiving beach in the area, with a sandy bottom and a sheltered point. South swells can make it lively on some summer days.
• Playa Las Palmas (San Pedrito): a palm-backed cove that can be calm enough to wade on small days; check conditions first.

Surfing in June

Summer brings south and southwest swells. Cerritos can catch them on the right days, but the Cabo side is where summer surf is most consistent, which is why our Cabo surf lessons guide recommends Costa Azul from spring through fall. We'd give Costa Azul the edge for a June lesson, and Cerritos the edge if you'd rather stay close to Todos Santos on a small, friendly day. A spring suit is usually enough at around 21°C.

Early Hurricane Season

Storms are rare in June, but the season is officially open. Book refundable rooms and tours, check the forecast in the week before you travel, and if a system does approach, follow local guidance: the town beaches become especially dangerous in storm swell.

What we'd prioritise in June

Book the water day first. We'd book this for your first calm morning: a Cabo snorkel cruise or a trip to Playa Balandra, since the warm Sea of Cortez is June's best swimming by a wide margin. Then enjoy the Pacific side for what it does best in early summer: mild walks around the galleries and historic center, sunset on the coast from Punta Lobos, and long dinners in the cooler evening air.

For adrenaline, the Migriño ATV trails on Highway 19 remain the closest big tour to town, and the first departure of the day is the one to book in June. • Plan warm-water days on the Cortez side. Cabo's snorkel bays and Playa Balandra are warm and calm; the Pacific beaches near town are cool and rough.
• Skip the Los Islotes sea lions. The colony closes around June 1 for pupping season; look for mobula rays off La Paz instead.
• Take the first tour departure. Migriño, the zipline canyon, and foothill hikes get hot by midday inland, even though the coast stays mild.
• Rent a car. Migriño, Cerritos, La Paz, and every Cabo tour departure need wheels, and most tour pickups cover Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo hotels rather than Todos Santos.
• Confirm your hotel and restaurant plans. Fewer properties returned June rates in our sample, and some venues keep low-season hours; check directly before you commit.
• Treat the beaches with respect. Most beaches near town are unswimmable; swim only at Cerritos on calm days, and never alone.
• Pack sun protection. June sun is intense even when the sea breeze keeps the air mild.
