Todos Santos in July is summer in full. The cool Pacific current that kept spring so mild weakens, and highs climb to around 31°C (88°F), with warm, humid nights. The first summer showers arrive, and storm season starts to matter. It's still cooler than La Paz, which runs around 36°C, but July is no longer the mild escape of May and June.

The upside is the water. For the first time since autumn, the Pacific is genuinely pleasant, averaging about 24°C, so a morning at Cerritos or a surf session no longer needs a heavy wetsuit. We'd lean toward July for surfers, beach lovers who are happy at Cerritos, and families on the Mexican school holidays. We'd only steer you elsewhere if you want the full, bustling town and cool evenings; for those, winter and spring are better, and some businesses close for part of the summer.

Most people don't realize that July is the month the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez stop feeling like two different seasons. Both are warm now, so the argument for splitting your days between coasts is weaker than in May or June, and a Todos Santos base with morning beach time at Cerritos works well on its own.

Temperature and Humidity

July highs average about 31°C (88°F), four degrees above June, and nights warm to around 22°C (71°F). Climates to Travel describes the summer on this coast, from July to October, as sultry and relatively rainy, because the cold ocean current that moderates spring weakens in summer. The biggest difference from June is at night: air conditioning or a good fan goes from nice-to-have to essential.

Rain Pattern

July averages about 20 mm of rain over roughly two days, usually as short, sometimes heavy summer showers rather than all-day rain. Sunshine drops to around seven hours a day as afternoon clouds build more often. Plan outdoor activities for the morning.

Sea and Outdoor Conditions

The Pacific warms quickly in July, averaging about 24°C (75°F) and ranging from roughly 22°C to 27°C (72–78°F). A spring suit or just a rash guard is enough for surfing. Summer swells come from the south and southwest; Cerritos works best on a west-southwest swell according to Surf-Forecast, and Costa Azul on the Cabo side is the more consistent summer break. The town beaches keep their strong shore break.

July vs June and August

July is low season in Todos Santos, but a few dates shape it.

• July 1–4: US Independence Day weekend. July 4 falls on a Sunday in 2027, with the US federal holiday observed on Monday, July 5. Expect a small bump in American visitors, more noticeable in Cabo than in Todos Santos.
• July 5–9: the quiet window. The US holiday is over and Mexican schools are still in session. This is the calmest stretch of the month.
• July 10–31: Mexican summer holidays. The 2026–2027 school year ends on July 9, 2027, so domestic families head to the coast. Cerritos and the popular beaches get busier on weekends, while the town itself stays relaxed.

When we sampled room-only rates in September for July 2027, boutique hotels in and around town came in around $225–300 per night across early, mid, and late July, while luxury resorts ran roughly $465 to $1,165, easing slightly toward the end of the month. Only 9 of the roughly 95 properties listed by our booking partner returned rates for each set of dates; some may simply not have released July rates, and others may be closed or on reduced operation in summer. July's seasonal draw is the ocean itself. After months of cool water, the Pacific near Todos Santos averages about 24°C (75°F), and the difference on a beach day is enormous: getting in is refreshing rather than a test of nerve.

Where to Swim

• Playa Los Cerritos (about 15 minutes south): the best July beach day near Todos Santos, with a sandy bottom, a sheltered point, warm water, and a lively summer atmosphere. Swim on calm days and watch for surf.
• Playa Las Palmas (San Pedrito): a palm-backed cove that can be calm enough for a dip on small days; check conditions first.
• Punta Lobos, La Cachora, La Pastora, and the long beaches near town: warm water doesn't change the shore break and currents. These are still beaches for walking and sunsets, not swimming.

Surfing in July

July brings summer south and southwest swells and water warm enough for a rash guard or spring suit. We'd give Costa Azul the edge for consistency, which is why our Cabo surf lessons guide recommends it from spring through fall, and Cerritos the edge if you want to stay close to Todos Santos on a smaller, friendlier day. Morning is best before the sea breeze picks up.

And the Sea of Cortez

The Cortez side is warmer still, around 28°C near La Paz according to our La Paz in July guide, and calmer. A Cabo snorkel cruise or Playa Balandra remains the best choice for clear-water snorkeling.

July's downsides are real but manageable: heat and humidity, the start of the stormier part of summer, and a town that begins to wind down for its summer break.

Heat and Humidity

Highs around 31°C and warm, humid nights make midday the time to rest. We'd plan outdoor activities for early morning and late afternoon, and make sure your accommodation has air conditioning or strong fans. Inland, around Migriño and the zipline canyons, it's hotter than on the coast.

Storm Season

The eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30, with the peak from July to September according to NOAA's Climate.gov, while Climates to Travel puts the higher probability for Baja from August to October. In July, what visitors usually notice is humidity and the odd heavy shower rather than a hurricane, but storm swell can make beaches dangerous and roads can flood briefly. Book refundable, watch the forecast in the week before travel, and follow local guidance if a system approaches.

Summer Closures

Some restaurants, galleries, and shops close or reduce hours in July, and more close in September, when the town is at its quietest. It's not a ghost town in July, but it's worth checking before building a day around a particular place.

What we'd prioritise in July

Water first, early. We'd book this for your first calm morning: a Cabo snorkel cruise in the warm Sea of Cortez. On other days, head to Cerritos early for a swim or a surf lesson in the warmest Pacific water since autumn, and retreat to shade and air conditioning in the afternoon.

Save the town for early morning and evening, when it's cooler and the galleries and restaurants that stay open through summer are at their most relaxed. • Get air conditioning. Nights around 22°C and high humidity make it essential for comfortable sleep.
• Swim at Cerritos, not the town beaches. The water is warm now, but the shore break near town is as dangerous as ever.
• Take the first tour departure. Desert tours at Migriño and the zipline canyons get very hot by late morning.
• Check opening hours. Some restaurants and galleries close or cut hours in summer; confirm before you go.
• Expect busier beaches after July 9. Mexican school holidays bring families to the coast, especially on weekends.
• Rent a car. Cerritos, Migriño, La Paz, and every Cabo tour departure need wheels, and most tour pickups cover Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo hotels rather than Todos Santos.
• Hydrate and use sun protection. The combination of heat, humidity, and strong sun catches many visitors out.
