Five Cabo San Lucas kayak tours compared: sunrise paddles to the Arch from $90, glass-bottom kayaks, a calmer two-bay route in the Corridor and private tours, with the timing that makes or breaks the day.
What You Should Know
- A guided Cabo San Lucas kayak tour launches from Playa Empacadora at the marina, paddles past Pelican Rock to the Arch and Lovers Beach, and stops to snorkel; there is no boat ride.
- Kayak tours run year-round, with departures from 6:00am to 2:00pm depending on the operator; the earliest Arch tours generally get calmer water and fewer boats.
- Shared tours cost $90 to $100 per person in 2026, with snorkel gear included; one operator's prices rise by $10 to $15 from January 2027, and private tours start at $125.
- Kayaks are tandems, so you paddle as a pair, and the return leg into the wind is the hard part; Lovers Beach landings are skipped whenever the swell is up.
Kayaking in Cabo San Lucas
To kayak Cabo San Lucas is to see Land's End at water level: you launch straight from the beach at the end of the marina, paddle along the granite cliffs to the Arch, pass Neptune's Finger and Lovers Beach, and finish with a snorkel at Pelican Rock. A Cabo San Lucas kayak tour takes two to 2.5 hours, needs no experience, and costs $90 to $100 per person on a shared tour, with snorkel gear included on every tour below.
The five tours below come from three operators. Four paddle to the Arch from Playa Empacadora (also called Playa Corsario); one paddles between Santa Maria and Chileno bays in the Tourist Corridor, a quieter route that does not reach the Arch. What really separates them is the start time, the group size, whether hotel transport is included, and whether you want a guide to yourselves. For the same water by boat, see our glass-bottom boat guide; for snorkel-first trips, see our Cabo snorkeling guide, or our Chileno Bay and Santa Maria Bay guide for the two Corridor bays. ℹ️ All tours and information were checked against live operator listings and published guest reviews on October 30, 2026, and every tour was bookable on sample dates from November 2026 to March 2027. Cabo Nature prices in Mexican pesos, converted at that day's rate (18.83 MXN to the dollar), so the dollar figure moves with the exchange rate. Every tour here launches straight from the sand, with no boat ride. You get a short briefing on the beach, a life jacket and snorkel gear, then wade out to waist depth to climb into a sit-on-top tandem kayak. Expect to get wet from the start; bring a swimsuit, a towel and a dry bag or nothing you mind soaking. True Baja hands out dry bags, and High Tide guests can usually leave belongings in the van.
Our take (the clock matters more than the operator): The water at Land's End changes through the morning. By about 10:00am the water taxis, glass-bottom boats and charters are all heading for the Arch, and their wakes make the paddle rougher and the snorkeling murkier. Guests on the 6:00am and 8:00am tours describe a different trip from guests at 9:00am or later.
Which departure time to book
| Departure | Tours | Main advantage | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6:00am (6:30am in Jan and Feb) | True Baja | Calmest water and a nearly empty Arch; sunrise on the paddle out | A very early pickup |
| 8:00am | Cabo Nature | Out before most of the boat traffic | More boats than at sunrise, busier on the way back |
| 9:00am to 10:30am | High Tide (9:00am), True Baja (9:30am), Cabo Nature (10:30am) | A convenient morning start | You share the Arch with water taxis and charters, and wakes can cloud the snorkeling |
| 2:00pm | High Tide Arch tour | Fits a late riser or a morning commitment | Busier water and more exposure to conditions that change through the day |
The private High Tide tours set their start time with you, so ask for the earliest slot they offer.
What reviewers consistently mention
- A real workout on the way back. The paddle out is easy; the return often runs into the wind and current. On True Baja, a guide took over a tiring paddler's single kayak, and Cabo Nature guests describe guides helping a flagging group member.
- Sea lions and rays. Sea lions at Pelican Rock and rays leaping out of the water come up again and again on the Arch tours, and humpback whales from December to April.
- Lovers Beach is weather-dependent. On calm days you land and walk across; when the swell is up guides skip it, and getting in and out of the kayak there can be tricky even on good days.
- Jellyfish at times. Several spring and summer 2026 reviews mention jellyfish stings at the snorkel stop. A rash guard or thin wetsuit helps, and High Tide lends wetsuits in winter.
- Not snorkeling? Pelican Rock gets crowded, and one guest who sat out the snorkel found nowhere comfortable to wait; on rough days the stop there runs longer to make up for skipping Lovers Beach.
- Photos without paying. Guides on the True Baja, High Tide and Cabo Nature tours take photos at the Arch and share them free, so you can leave your phone on shore.
Best Kayak Tours in Cabo San Lucas
The five tours below are ordered by how confidently we would recommend them to a first-time visitor. With four of the five rated 4.9 or 5.0, we weighted the start time, group size, transport, route and recent review themes rather than the headline stars.
True Baja: Arch and Lovers Beach Kayak
The cheapest tour here, rated 5.0 with 1,056 of its 1,073 reviews at five stars. Its 6:00am departure (6:30am in January and February) is the reason we rank it first. Guests on that slot describe kayaking into the sunrise and having the Arch almost to themselves, then snorkeling with sea lions at Pelican Rock before the water taxis arrive. Guides take photos at the Arch and send them free, and groups top out at 14. The trade-off is fitness: you paddle a tandem in open water, and on rough days the group skips Lovers Beach and spends longer snorkeling instead.
Check availabilityHigh Tide Los Cabos: Kayak and Snorkel to the Arch
The most reviewed kayak tour in Cabo, at 4.9 from 1,419, with free transport from hotels as far as San José del Cabo and the only shared 2:00pm slot. Guests often land at Lovers Beach and walk across to Divorce Beach on the Pacific side. Two things to know: its 9:00am start puts you at the Arch with the boat traffic, and its glass-bottom kayaks have small, often scuffed windows; several guests say you see more by looking over the side. It costs $95 until December 31, 2026, then $105. We'd book it if you are staying in San José del Cabo or the Corridor, where its free transport saves a taxi, or if a dawn start is out of the question.
Check availabilityHigh Tide Los Cabos: 2 Bays Kayak and Snorkel
A different coastline: you launch at Santa Maria Bay in the Corridor and paddle to Chileno Bay, two protected coves with reef snorkeling straight off the beach, with beach chairs and an umbrella waiting. It is rated 5.0 from 677, with no review below three stars. It does not visit the Arch, runs only four mornings a week, and the crossing between the bays can be the roughest part; one guest describes a capsize among the rocks, and on rough days the tour stays in one bay.
Check availabilityCabo Nature: Kayak or Paddle Board to the Arch
Groups of eight at most, led by guides who are marine biologists or oceanographers, and each guest chooses a kayak or a stand-up paddle board. Photos are included. It starts at 8:00am, and one guest on the later 10:30am slot says the guides recommend the 8:00am. It is rated 4.9 from 199. There is no hotel transport: you meet at Playa Empacadora, and one recent guest could not find the meeting point in time. Ages 12 and up only.
Check availabilityHigh Tide Los Cabos: Private Kayak to the Arch
The Arch route with a guide to your group alone, so you set the start time, the pace and the stops. Recent guests describe guides timing the swell to land them at Lovers Beach and leaving about 20 minutes ahead of the tour boats. It is rated 5.0 from 62 reviews, 18 of them in the past year. It costs $125 per person until December 24, 2026, then $140. For four people, High Tide's separate private tour for up to four guests ($500 per group, 5.0 from 75 reviews) works out the same per person.
Check availabilityIf two of these appeal equally, choose by start time first: the tours that launch at 6:00am or 8:00am get calmer water and a quieter Arch, which matters more to how the morning feels than any difference in price.
Where You Kayak in Cabo San Lucas
Land's End and the Arch from Playa Empacadora
Four of the five tours launch from Playa Empacadora, a small beach at the end of the marina boulevard and a short walk from the cruise tender pier. The route follows the cliffs past Pelican Rock and Neptune's Finger to the Arch, where guides stop for photos, and on calm days lands at Lovers Beach so you can walk across the sand to Divorce Beach on the Pacific side. The snorkel stop is usually at Pelican Rock, where sea lions often join swimmers. This is the stretch every water taxi and glass-bottom boat also visits, so the earlier you launch, the more of it you have to yourself.
Santa Maria and Chileno bays in the Corridor
The 2 Bays tour launches from Santa Maria Beach in the Tourist Corridor, between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, and paddles along the cliffs to Chileno Bay. Both are protected coves with reef snorkeling straight off the beach, and there is far less boat traffic than at Land's End. The trade-off is that you do not see the Arch, and the open stretch between the two bays can be choppy, in which case the tour stays inside one bay. In short, it avoids the Land's End boat traffic and gives you a sheltered beach start with chairs and shade, but it is not necessarily an easier paddle in every condition: one guest describes a capsize among the rocks on the crossing. We'd choose it for snorkeling from the beach and a quieter morning, and look elsewhere if the Arch is the reason you are going.
How Much Is a Kayak Tour in Cabo San Lucas?
A kayak tour in Cabo San Lucas costs $90 to $100 per person on a shared tour in 2026, and $125 or more for a private one. Snorkel gear, water and snacks are included on every tour here, and none of the listings add a park fee; the extra you will spend is a tip for the guides. High Tide Los Cabos raises its prices by $10 to $15 from January 2027, so a booking for next year costs more than this year's price suggests.
Two to 2.5 hours with snorkeling: $90 at True Baja, $93 at Cabo Nature (priced in pesos), $95 at High Tide Los Cabos to the Arch and $100 on its 2 Bays tour. High Tide's rise to $105 and $110 in January 2027.
Per person for a private Arch tour at High Tide Los Cabos, $125 in 2026 and $140 from January 2027. Its private 2 Bays tour is $130, then $150.
High Tide's private Arch tour for up to four guests, priced per group ($560 from January 2027). It works out the same per person as booking four places on the private tour.
For most visitors we would book True Baja's 6:00am tour at $90: it is the cheapest of the five and the earliest launch, and photos are included.
Paddle Boards, Boats and Other Ways to See the Arch
- Stand-up paddle board instead: Cabo Nature lets each guest choose a board on the same tour. High Tide Los Cabos runs a dedicated Paddle Board and Snorkel to the Arch ($100, 5.0 from 367 reviews). Boards are harder in the chop than a tandem kayak, so we would only choose one if you have paddled before.
- Boat-based snorkel with kayaks on board: Cabo Adventures' Power Snorkel Adventure ($99 plus $15 per person for transport, 4.7 from 924 reviews) takes a speedboat past the Arch to a cove where you can snorkel, kayak, paddle board and use sea scooters. One guest timed about 40 minutes by boat each way and an hour in the water, so kayaking is a small part of it. It suits families who want variety more than paddlers.
- See the Arch without paddling: our glass-bottom boat guide covers the 45-minute boat trips to Land's End, and a sunset cruise passes the Arch in the evening.
Our Take
The pattern we keep seeing is that the start time decides the trip more than the operator does: the 6:00am and 8:00am paddlers describe glassy water and an empty Arch, while 9:00am and afternoon paddlers describe wakes, crowds and a hard paddle home.
Tips for Kayaking in Cabo San Lucas
- Book the earliest slot you can face. True Baja launches at 6:00am (6:30am in January and February) and Cabo Nature at 8:00am. The High Tide tours start at 9:00am, and its own listing notes that mornings bring better visibility, calmer water and fewer boats.
- Check whether a cruise ship is in port. On ship days the 10:00am to noon window at Land's End is at its busiest; a guest on that slot found it fun but crowded, and suggests the sunrise tour if you want quiet.
- Bring your own mask if you have one that fits. Guests on two of these tours found the loaner masks leaked at the nose.
- Plan for the paddle home. Guests who found the tour hard almost always mean the return leg. If one of you is much stronger, put them in the back seat, which steers.
- Check the weight limit for tandems. True Baja and High Tide allow 425 lb (193 kg) combined per kayak.
- Cruise passengers: Playa Empacadora is a short walk around the marina from the tender pier, and one cruise guest notes the guides made sure they were back in time for their tender.
- Leave your phone behind or bag it. You will get wet launching and landing, guides take photos at the Arch, and Cabo Nature advises against bringing phones on choppy days.
- Wear reef-safe sunscreen and a rash guard. There is no shade on the water, and a rash guard also helps on days with jellyfish at the snorkel stop.
- Expect a weather call. Wind can stop a tour short of the Arch or cancel it; every tour here refunds or reschedules if the operator cancels for weather. Summer can also bring sudden squalls; one August 2026 group was caught by wind and rain and turned back early.
- Kayaking in whale season? Humpbacks pass Land's End from December to April; our Cabo whale watching guide covers boat tours if you want a closer look.
- Visiting in January? Our Cabo in January guide covers the cooler water, when a wetsuit makes the snorkel stop far more comfortable.

How We Selected These Tours
The Cabo Tour Guides team started from every kayak and paddle tour listed for Cabo San Lucas, about 18 listings, and narrowed them on what matters most for kayaking here: the start time, the route, the group size, transport and whether recent guests are still reviewing the tour. We checked every listing against live operator data on October 30, 2026, and confirmed each of the five was active and bookable on sample dates from November 2026 to March 2027. We left out a Pelican Rock kayak tour with no reviews since January 2024, a Chileno Bay kayak tour with only one review in the past year, and listings with one or two reviews in total. We kept paddle-board-only tours and the boat-based Power Snorkel Adventure out of the comparison table because kayaking is not their main event; they appear under alternatives. For the experience details we read 851 guest reviews pulled from the operators' listings: up to the 150 most recent reviews of each tour we compared (all 62 for the private tour), plus each tour's most recent 1 to 3 star reviews, so that complaints about wind, boat traffic and logistics were properly represented. When we describe how common something is, we go by each tour's full rating distribution, not the share of complaints in that sample. To be explicit about how this page is made and paid for: we have not taken these tours ourselves, and nothing here is written as though we had. Our judgements come from operator listing data and published guest reviews. Cabo Nature's price is converted from Mexican pesos at the October 30, 2026 rate. Booking links are affiliate links and we may earn a commission if you book through them, at no extra cost to you. No operator paid for inclusion, for a label, or for its position in the table, and commission rates played no part in the order.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best kayak tour in Cabo San Lucas?+
True Baja's Arch and Lovers Beach kayak tour is our top pick: rated 5.0 from 1,073 reviews, the cheapest of the five at $90, and the only one with a 6:00am departure that reaches the Arch before the boat traffic. Photos at the Arch are included.
How much is a kayak tour in Cabo San Lucas?+
$90 to $100 per person for a shared two to 2.5-hour tour with snorkeling in 2026, and $125 or more for a private tour. High Tide Los Cabos raises its prices by $10 to $15 from January 2027. None of the listings add a park fee; plan on a tip for the guides.
Can you kayak to the Arch in Cabo San Lucas?+
Yes. Guided tours launch from Playa Empacadora at the end of the marina and paddle along the cliffs to the Arch, usually with a stop at Lovers Beach and a snorkel at Pelican Rock. Strong wind can stop a tour short of the Arch, in which case it continues around Land's End.
Do you need kayaking experience in Cabo?+
No. Every tour starts with a briefing, and most guests paddle a stable two-person sit-on-top kayak with a guide alongside. You do need basic fitness and to be comfortable in the water: the paddle back often runs into the wind, and you swim at the snorkel stop. One couple aged 70 who had never kayaked or snorkeled describe managing comfortably with the guides' help.
What is the best time to kayak in Cabo San Lucas?+
Early morning. The 6:00am and 8:00am departures generally get calmer water and reach the Arch before most of the water taxis and tour boats, which build from around mid-morning. Conditions still vary day to day. For whales from the kayak, go between December and April.
Can kids kayak in Cabo San Lucas?+
Yes, from age 6 on the High Tide Los Cabos tours, which use two-person kayaks so a child can ride with an adult, and from 8 on True Baja's tour. Cabo Nature takes guests from 12. All five listings also cap ages at 70; High Tide says guests outside its range can ask about exceptions before booking.
Is it safe to kayak to the Arch in Cabo?+
Guided tours provide life jackets, a safety briefing and guides who watch the conditions, but paddling around Land's End still means open water, boat traffic and wind and swell that can change during the morning. The return paddle can be physically demanding. Follow the guides' calls, and don't assume every departure will reach the Arch or land at Lovers Beach. Every listing advises against the tour for pregnant travelers and people with back or heart problems.
Will I see sea lions or whales while kayaking in Cabo?+
Sea lions are a regular sight on the rocks at Land's End and often swim near snorkelers at Pelican Rock. Humpback whales pass from December to April, and reviewers on several of these tours describe seeing them from the kayak; neither is guaranteed.
